In Zen, a koan is a phrase or question that cannot be answered rationally -- designed to shock the mind in awareness. In Tea Party politics, statements are made that are so absurd, contradictory, and absent of fact or rational thought that too many Americans are shocked into being unable to vote because the top of your head just blew off.
